    Hello,

My Shih-Tzu likes small pieces of cheese (which I use in the video) and also liver treats.

    All the best.

    Hi,

    Thanks for your question.

The crucial point with the clicker is that the feedback you provide to your dog is timely and always consistent.

Also keep in mind that not rewarding a behavior (in your case, the dog going into the down position) with a click and treat sends a powerful message to your dog. Behavior that is not rewarded is not reinforced so is therefore less likely to occur again.

You can also use your voice to communicate to your dog what is desired behavior and what is not.

As a training video I have to say that the critically hard part — going from step 2 to step 3 — wasn’t clarified or demonstrated. How do you say “elbows down = excellent, elbows down AND butt down = terrible” with just a clicker?

  • DogTrainingTricks says:

Yep – check out my other videos and you’ll find one showing you how to teach the “Play Dead”

    Thanks.

    Hi FenderChick,

Yes small Macy is a Shih-Tzu although she does look similar to a Lhasa Apso.

The treats I use are cheese or liver treats which I get from the local pet store. The key is to find the treat that you dog really likes – then use it as motivation, not as a bribe.

    Excellent luck with your dog.

How to stop barking dogs!

Hey this is John, above is my 2 year old border collie. I built this site to help others who are struggling with dog behavioural problems.

Up to a few months a go Sammy had a few behaviour type problems and barked a lot. To the point where my neighbours were complaining regularly.

I have searched high and low for the answer, I tried out lots of different methods, including remote static and vibration colars, citronella colars and various other products, with no real success.

Well there is a way......

I eventually found my way and Sammy and me have worked through our problems. Sammy no longer barks, we are both much happier and no more complains from my neighbours !!

I wish I new back then what I know now! To find out more about how I did it click here.
