    Well, you could;

A- Get a trainer for your dog

B- Try and tempt your dog with treats once in a while or some new items or toys

C- Pet him, rub him, etc.

You can get a squirt bottle and squirt her when you catch her barking for no reson this should frighten her and she should stop repeat this when she barks….

Another alternative is getting something loud and banging it together..this should scare her and make her stop…or you can get a jar of pennies and shake them.

My chihuahua has been barking non stop for the past four years. Sorry, it ain’t gonna happen

  • Meagan says:

Get a spray bottle and spray water in her face everytime she does and say “No” in a firm voice. It will be hard to discipline her at first, but you won’t regret it when she becomes more tame and people don’t get annoyed everytime you come around with your dog.

  • Leah says:

omg, mines is the same way. you can’t shut her up. i guess you can just expose her more to people. maybe that would work.

  • Chula Lula says:

That will take training. Sign her up. OR, you can buy one of those dog bark collars. some are ineffective, others are barbaric and others are very expensive. Some dogs can be debarked by a vet.

  • Chigirl says:

Take him around more ppl, sounds like he needs more socialization training. Keep in mind Chihuahua’s do bark at strangers..it is a breed characteristic, maybe you should have done more research on the breed before you got one.

It is normal for a Chihuahua to be weary with strangers…ALL DOGS bark some more than others

To the Idiot who said it is a stereotype…your telling me it isn’t a characteristic for dogs to bark?? Even the tiny Chi??

My Chi’s are all well trained & socialized & came from excellent breeding, but if you walked on my lawn today…they would bark at you!! & I don’t mind it, personally, I want my dogs to let me know when someone is at my house. Dogs are extremely loyal…especially the Chi!!

If you don’t like barking…get a Rabbit!! But with that said in your case i do believe the barking is due to lack of socialization…Chihuahua’s will always bark, but it should be kept under control just like with any dog.

  • Lizzie says:

Small dogs tend to bark a lot. Look around for a small citronella collar at http://www.petedge.com., http://www.kvpet.com, or http://www.ryanspet.com. There are other places, too. These are the three that I’m most familiar with. Just do a search on “citronella collar.”

  • Kristin says:

Squirt her with a spray bottle, and use a stern “NO”

Works with my Chi mix and my grandma’s Chis.

  • HuDsOn says:

    squirt him/ slap him

  • Sherry says:

Start training with your tiny dog… learn how to properly socialize her with all types of people. Some are frightened of beards, scarves, canes, wheelchairs, tall people, all sorts of things. It could be she is just not use to being around strangers or had a terrible experience one time when meeting someone new.

    Call Cesar Milan maybe :)

  • Kellydoodledoo says:

sprits her with water. not like cold or bruning or anything mean, just get an ancient windex bottel and fill it with room temperature water, and when ever she barks, spray her once or twice. thats what my neighbors did with there dog, and eventually she caught on and doesnt bark any more! we tried that with my dog but she thought it was amusing and kept barking lol, so id suggest only doing that meathod if she doesnt like water.

  • jayden says:

    say guiet!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • jodi says:

Try a squirt gun. Tell her no once if she does not stop shoot her. Another thing to try is pennies in a can. Tell her no, if she does not stop shake the can. Do not reward her by treating or petting you do not want to take the chance that she will misunderstand and reckon the reward is for barking.

  • Alesi's Chi's says:

This is NOT a breed characteristic people, it’s a STEREOTYPE. Your dog was most likely not socialized properly at any point in her life, and could also be the offspring of parents with weak temperaments. You have to bring her out in public in order for her to become more confident around new people. Squirting her with water is not going to help

  • RV says:

I agree with the squirt bottle thought. Any time she gets out of control just spritz her with water until she stops.

How to stop barking dogs!

Hey this is John, above is my 2 year old border collie. I built this site to help others who are struggling with dog behavioural problems.

Up to a few months a go Sammy had a few behaviour type problems and barked a lot. To the point where my neighbours were complaining regularly.

I have searched high and low for the answer, I tried out lots of different methods, including remote static and vibration colars, citronella colars and various other products, with no real success.

Well there is a way......

I eventually found my way and Sammy and me have worked through our problems. Sammy no longer barks, we are both much happier and no more complains from my neighbours !!

I wish I new back then what I know now! To find out more about how I did it click here.
