How can I train my dog to stop barking at people that passes by my house? ?

Every time they see someone they bark even though they see them every day.(we live in a culdasac) but anyways I used to have another dog who only barked at people he didint see before. We liked how he did that. Is there a way we can teach my dogs now to do that? Thanks!

My dog did the same thing! Its typical for a dog to bark at every thing and every one. What i did was sprayed my dog with hot and cold water and soon he learned not to bark. Some times i let them bark so at night if some one tries to break into my house they bark and i wake up.

They bark at everyone because the first 50 times they did it they were allowed to get away with it.

You now have to teach them the silent command. You have to be present with them and make them silent and you will be able to gain some control. Then they will learn not to bark at people they know.

A way to maybe stop this is have people for your family, friends, e.t.c. come over, walk up to your door, and when entered praise the dog immidentley until he/she is comfortable with them. The dog will learn their scent and appearance if the come over frequently. Keep doing this then if willing, have the friend or family member walk around your outside perimeter so the dog knows them and won’t bark. Hope i helped !

Shock collar when they are inside. When they bark it will vibrate and shock them. It does not seriously hurt them just scares them. He will learn after a few barks. But if you walk him, take it off. That’s his free time

In my opinion he is a EXCELLENT dog doing his job.

I had neighbors complain about my dogs constantly barking. But animal control came out to listen to my dogs to see if it was considered excessive barking. They, like your dog, is trained to alert me when ever the is someone or something on the street. By the time animal control left they said there was not incorrect with my dogs barking. Dogs ‘bark’, that is what dogs do. & each & every time they barked there was a reason behind it. No violation, no citation, no warning. Dogs bark, they don’t moo, nay or cackle, they bark.

Excellent working dog, I wouldn’t change a thing.

Gotta say I agree with bluebonnetgranny on this one. It is only natural for a dog to bark. Its an instinct and a very useful one especially if there is a burglar some time in the future.

Not trying to be negative, I’m just looking at the positive side of your dog barking! There are two sides on most coins :)

How to stop barking dogs!

Hey this is John, above is my 2 year old border collie. I built this site to help others who are struggling with dog behavioural problems.

Up to a few months a go Sammy had a few behaviour type problems and barked a lot. To the point where my neighbours were complaining regularly.

I have searched high and low for the answer, I tried out lots of different methods, including remote static and vibration colars, citronella colars and various other products, with no real success.

Well there is a way......

I eventually found my way and Sammy and me have worked through our problems. Sammy no longer barks, we are both much happier and no more complains from my neighbours !!

I wish I new back then what I know now! To find out more about how I did it click here.
