Whenever he starts barking, say a command like “No bark!” in a voice that makes them reckon they are in distress. Continually do this. Then, he will learn that that command means, “Hey, I should stop barking!” And then, he will stop right when you give the command. Eventually, if you just give the command, he will automatically stop barking. Worked with our dogs!

It depends what dog you have. i have a dachshund & since it’s winter we keep him in. we noticed that the only time he barks is when he hears a noise or another dog barking otherwise he is snug in his blanket. If u live in a noisy area or a place that as many dogs i reckon there is nothing much you can do. If he is small keep him & train him. get him a nice indoor basket & he wouldnt worry but if he is huge then sorry cant help.

Find out why he is barking.

If he is barking at something, try to distract him. But, if he is barking because he wants attention… and you have been giving him attention… then you’ll have to completely ignore him for about 30 days. Don’t look out the door or window, don’t pet him, and don’t yell at him. Eventually he will give up…but it can take a month.

Bring him in the house. Dogs want to be with their family.

If he can’t be excellent inthe house without being supervised crate him. A dogs job is to protect its domain. Is someone gonna take the dog house?

We used a special collar that contains a kind of citronella oil. When the dog barked, it released a small spray of the oil. Dogs don’t like the smell apparently. It worked really well. I don’t know where you live, but we were able to hire one from our local government office.

Bring him in the house , sleep him in a crate, dogs that bark all night are trying to tell you something, try listening to him ….wouldn’t it be nice if you, the dog and your neighbors could all get some sleep :)

I am not sure if my uncle was joking when he told me this.
His next door neighbour’s dog was barking uncontrollably for several nights, and my uncle was really being disturbed. Then he suddenly spotted his son’s gobstopper candy, and thought that since it used to keep his son silent for hours, he should give one gobstopper to the dog next door. That was the end of the barking for the dog and the sleepless nights for Unc. The dog likes my uncle to bits and waits patiently for his gobstopper every night.
Gobstopper are huge hard candies that last for a very long time.. you have to suck them.. impossible to bite. Try it and give one to your dog..

giving them a command to stop barking works for my dogs too. but bark collars work as well, you can get them for any pet store or walmart, I use it on my dog and as soon as I place it on her she will cower like she know she cannot bark now. but it does not really hurt the dog. it give a three beep warning when she barks followed by a mild electric shock if she continues to bark. the collar allows one bark only. so now my dog know she can bark at least once LOL! sshh! don’t tell the dog but the batteries in the collar are dead and we have not replaced them but the dog does not know that she still respects the collar eventhough it dosn’t shock anymore. anyway also question yourself why is my dog barking does he want attention, is he alerting you to strangers, maybe he wants socialization. or training, basic training isn’t a cure all but is helps. perhaps you can crate train him and bring him in. domesticated dogs should be indoors in my humble opinion, its too simple to neglect or forget about a dog that is kept outside. maybe the dog is barking because he dosn’t want you to forget about him.

How to stop barking dogs!

Hey this is John, above is my 2 year old border collie. I built this site to help others who are struggling with dog behavioural problems.

Up to a few months a go Sammy had a few behaviour type problems and barked a lot. To the point where my neighbours were complaining regularly.

I have searched high and low for the answer, I tried out lots of different methods, including remote static and vibration colars, citronella colars and various other products, with no real success.

Well there is a way......

I eventually found my way and Sammy and me have worked through our problems. Sammy no longer barks, we are both much happier and no more complains from my neighbours !!

I wish I new back then what I know now! To find out more about how I did it click here.
