How do you teach a dog to bark without them barking excessively?

I have taught my dog to speak, but, now she thinks that barking is a excellent thing! How do i teach my dog that speaking is only okay when i question for it? She tends to bark when im about to take her on a walk and when im asking her to do tricks for me.

when you teach your dog to speak you also teach it the silent command so that they dont reckon noise is a excellent thing they thing listening to what you want them to do is a excellent thing

  • Red says:

Teach your dog Speak and No Speak.
Now that you’ve taught her to Speak, I don’t have to give you advice for that, but I can tell you a small bit about No Speak.
It’s very simple: when she barks, say Excellent Speak! or whatever term you’ve been using. Have treats handy and make sure she can see them. You can even reward her for the barking when she does it whether you’ve questioned her to or not, but don’t do this for very long. 1 to 2 days at the most until she catches on to the No Speak and learns the difference between speaking on command and shutting up. ;)
When she barks, say Excellent Speak! reward, then say “Ok, no speak!” If you use a clear firm voice, that should get her attention. Once she sees those treats, she’ll be focused on you. The very second that she stops barking, reward.
It’s imperative that you reward IMMEDIATELY otherwise she won’t know that she got rewarded for the No Speak. If she barks again, tell her “Incorrect” and try again with “No Speak”
Again, make sure you reward AS SOON AS SHE OBEYS. Waiting any longer than 2 to 3 seconds makes the training pointless.
Keep trying; don’t give up and she’ll catch on.
    Excellent luck

*P.S. If all else fails, use reprimands instead of rewards. As a last resort, you can carry treats AND a squirt bottle. When she obeys, treat her. When she disobeys, squirt her with water in the butt. Never squirt her in the face because otherwise, she’ll figure out it’s just water and she’ll reckon it’s a game.

How to stop barking dogs!

Hey this is John, above is my 2 year old border collie. I built this site to help others who are struggling with dog behavioural problems.

Up to a few months a go Sammy had a few behaviour type problems and barked a lot. To the point where my neighbours were complaining regularly.

I have searched high and low for the answer, I tried out lots of different methods, including remote static and vibration colars, citronella colars and various other products, with no real success.

Well there is a way......

I eventually found my way and Sammy and me have worked through our problems. Sammy no longer barks, we are both much happier and no more complains from my neighbours !!

I wish I new back then what I know now! To find out more about how I did it click here.
