How to train my dog to stop barking excessively?
My dog continuesly barks at other dogs, people that walk into your house, and other people walking as we are walking him. Also, he barks when we leave the house even if its for a few minutes. I have had enough of the barking. We have tried using the can with coins in it. At first it worked but later on it lost its effectiveness. I refuse to buy the shock collar, i feel its inhumane. But i may have to if i cannot find any other solution. Please help

Try teaching ‘leave it’ and ‘watch me’. It tells him you have situation under control and to place his focus elsewhere.
I also suggest getting him into some obediance classes. Never hurts to brush up on the other manners as well as learn how to be a better trainer.
first try training your dog to bark on command.
once your dog has mastered this train your dog when to stop barking with a hand cue.
soon you will be able to use this to keep your dog from barking when you /don’t/ command him/her to.
only positive reinforcement , treats, like, and patience will help you accomplish this.
Since you refuse the most humane and most definitive method, the ELECTRIC, not shock collar, there is not much else that you can do to assure you a quick and permanent stop of all BS barking.
I have used to ELECTRIC collar for 20 years now and neither I nor my dogs and especially my neighbors who have a right to peace and silent have ever found it inhumane!!!

I have two terrier mixed breed puppies and training them was/is absolute hell. Once you get the hang of their ADHD personalities, it shouldn’t be so terrible. Try researching your dogs breed and see if that gets you any more insight on how to approach training your dog.
