several of my neighbors are calling the cops about my dog barking when he isnt what do I do?

Three neighbors, whom hang out togeather, called the cops on me today for my dog barking. I was outside all day with my dog litterally only 20 feet away and he only barked a few times and only for a couple seconds untill I yelled at him. I recieved a summons to court because they collaberated their tales and the police said because they all had simmilar complaints that there was probably cause. What do I do I am tired of being harrased by these people and the police dont do anything about one of them threatening me and yelling at me to come fight him. I can’t afford an attorney and now I have to go to court.
Thankyou everyone whom has answered so far. I want to clear up some things for those that have because there are some details missing. The dog does not stay outside when I am not home, I am affriad of them trying to kill him again by feeding him rib bones. Had to talk to vet and vet said watch him cause it could kill him. So the dog is only out when I’m home so I know what he is doing. The dog rairly stays outside all day unless I am out there with him. When he is out he is usually only out for about an hour long enough to do his business and get some air.The neighbors despise me because I started off being friends with one of them as soon as I bought the house and they were just too demanding, I place up with it for 2 years and then politely told them that I have a right to live here the way I want within the laws & that I could not comply with all the requests they had any more. This made them mad and they started calling the cops and making things up ever since & now have friends helping

Try calling a free legal service, such as a hot line or no win-no fee firm. I know most countries have some kind of free legal advice. They can advise you and possibly take your case to court.

    tape recorder and witnesses

that is really unfair! i suggest you follow what the person above said about the free legal services….

i am soo sorry these people are being evil. i suggest you talk to them too and see why they called the police (like why they thought your dog was barking enough to warn the authorities)

You addmitted that your dog did bark (few times is jus as excellent as many times). Its in the nature of the dog to bark and dont deny those allegations in court. The case is did it make noise and disturb the peace in the neighbourhood?? jus tell the judge you will control the dog. And tell those police to patrol the hood and determine whether for sure your dog makes noise. Dogs bark, otherwise it wont be a normal dog

Well, this is ironic, been there, done that…but I was lucky, I had 2 dogs, a six foot fence with only 1/8″ between boards. You don’t need a lawyer, this is a cival case. Is there anyone that was with you as a witness that particular day? Did the neighbors come near the house to cause the dog to bark? He is only protecting his property if this is the case. How can they prove that your dog was barking if not? If you were with the dog, then you have a excellent case, tell the judge yes, he barked once or twice, but I didn’t notice if they were coming near to cause this, dogs will bark if they feel, especially if you are with them, that either you or them may be threatened. Place it in the mind set for the judge that they probably walked around the outside of your yard, causing the dog to bark a warning as they will do. If it is a large breed, even better….they are frightened of it and will do whatever to cause you to lose the pet. Just keep confirming that the pet is gentle, offer to bring it into court with you, and hopefully, and he will, not bark at anyone but the so called neighbors that have caused this. How the dog reacts will show the judge who was causing this. I won, brought my 170 lb fantastic dane into court, never barked once, they don’t unless they are taught to. Stand up for yourself and your buddy….see who loses in the long run. I wish you a very fantastic case, and one thing you must do, when one of them threaten to beat you up, automatically call the police, try to have a witness, but if not, they will have to make up a report about the call, get a copy and take it with you. If you have to, in a subtle way, make them threaten you, their credibility will be gone. Come on, you can fight this and win….

you don’t need an attorney, with these kinds of things a summons to court is merely a formality, and the worst that can happen is that you will get fined. If your dog does tend to bark more than normal, i would suggest getting a barking control collar, or reckon of a solution to the barking, so that when you go to court at least you can say you have attempted to address the problem. Also see if you have any other neighbours that are willing to support you and say that the dog does not bark more than ordinary.
You should certainly tell exactly the truth (i.e. the dog barked a few times) but also mention that they harass you, theaten you, and try to get you to fight. It seems like you’re being harassed, and if they made up the tale or exaggerated it, then they’re in the incorrect. just be honest, but i would mention the harassment.

If you can, try getting a tape recorder and use it to watch his behavior when you are not home. It could be that your neighbors called because of other times when your dog was barking. Or if not, you will have proof that your god is silent all day.

If the worst comes to worst, humor these people(and the cops) and go buy a bark collar.

If your do really does not bark, then you have no reason to be really worried about it.

Go. The neighbours obviously despise you for whatever reason. Make friends with the new neighbours!

Burn their houses down. Your only recourse as I see it.

READ MY STORY!

How to stop barking dogs!

Hey this is John, above is my 2 year old border collie. I built this site to help others who are struggling with dog behavioural problems.

Up to a few months a go Sammy had a few behaviour type problems and barked a lot. To the point where my neighbours were complaining regularly.

I have searched high and low for the answer, I tried out lots of different methods, including remote static and vibration colars, citronella colars and various other products, with no real success.

Well there is a way......

I eventually found my way and Sammy and me have worked through our problems. Sammy no longer barks, we are both much happier and no more complains from my neighbours !!

I wish I new back then what I know now! To find out more about how I did it click here.
