@supernaturalbc2008 Thank you! I’ll certainly try that (:
Start on another door (mabe a smaller cupbaord door or even a drawer that looks very different.. and this time try blocking it so it will only open a small. Its the flinging open that can scare them. When she is comfortable with that, open it a small more. Try other doors/drawers the same way so she genralizes the behavior. Wait about a month before asking her to try the ancient door again and block it so it will only open a small until she gets accustomed to it moving. Excellent Luck!
fantastic video!! i tried to teach this to my dog but she can be very nervous so the first time she really pulled hard enough to open the door, she got frightened of the door coming at her and now she won’t do it anymore. do you have any suggestions for this? thanks!!
excellent girl!
Cool! ^_^
thats really usefull video!! Thanx
Fantastic thought! Worth a try!
How about something that slightly seeps through the cloth? I’m not sure if that’d work or not as my dog likes tug anyway. :/

Thanks so much for this video and the others in this series! I’ve had my service dog since he was 7 weeks ancient and next month he turns one and we will be starting his specialized training. He likes to tug, so I know this will be a snap for him. These videos are fantastic for any one trying to train their own service dog!
Avoid inadvertently using any discouraging sounds like “ah, ah” or “no”. Expect improvements in only micro baby steps (click ANY behavior where she partially opens her mouth or even lifts a lip!) and stop each session before she or you gets frustrated! Excellent luck!
Place a lot of REALLY yummy food in it and try shaping a take with the toy on the ground. As she shows more interest, remove a small food. You want to build up her association that playing with the toy is as excellent as the food. Then try adding some tension. Click that and go from there. You’ll need to use lots of jackpot rewards & lots of patience as it may take quite awhile for her to pull it (especially if she is not so inclined or if she has been taught not to mouth objects/pull in the past.)
my dog really likes food
I was trying to teach her this way but she wont grab the toy i was using even when i place a bit of food in it. She just smells it and bats at it with her paw but doesnt grab or bite it.
Any suggestions?
thank you!
